ARC Review: Aflame (Fall Away #4) by Penelope Douglas

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Bully, Until You, Rival, and Falling Away comes the sizzling conclusion to the Fall Away series.

The tables have turned. Now I have the power—and it’s his turn to beg…

Everyone wants to be me.

Maybe it’s the sway of my skirt or the way I flip my hair, but I don’t care. Even though their attention is the last thing I crave, I just can’t stop. I dominate the track, the speed rattles my bones, and the wind and the crowd screams my name.

I’m her. The girl driver. The queen of the race. And I’m surviving—something he thought I’d never do.

They all still talk about him. Did you see Jared Trent on T.V? What did you think of his last race, Tate? When is he coming back to town, Tate?

But I refuse to care too much. Because when Jared does come home, I won’t be here.

Tatum Brandt is gone. I’m someone new.

5 FOREVER STARS
From the very beginning of Bully and throughout the end of Falling Away, I've been obsessed with Jared Trent and Tatum Brandt. Probably not the most healthiest obsession--I was constantly stalking Ms. Douglas' social media sites for any updates or teasers about my favorite couple since the end of Falling Away. And we all know what happens at the end of Jax's book...that scene where Jared walks away from Tate and leaves us hanging. Yeah, you could of hear hearts breaking and sobbing all across the world, including mine.

How can this author do this to us? Why? I'll tell you why, it's because Ms. Penelope Douglas is a friggin' genius! She knows what she is doing! She proved to me in Aflame that all book couples are not perfect. They may be in love and think forever and ever is in store for them, but sometimes you have to find yourself first in order to move forward with your one true love. And in this case, both Jared and Tate needed to do that, even if they both didn't realize it at the time.

We were all quick to blame Jared leaving Tate in the dust, but after his reasoning and what he went through over the last two years without her, I don't blame him. I'm glad he did what he did.  I will not spoil this book for you, because if someone spoiled it for me, I would of been pissed. But I will say don't jump to conclusions to why Jared left. And we all know they eventually get their HEA, the author did tell us that before (to calm everyone down). It just two years for them to get there.

"I'm tired of missing you, Tate."

I loved getting  both Jared and Tate's POV throughout this book. It really made you understand what they went though the last two years apart and what they are currently thinking in the present time. Plus seeing old characters from Bully make an appearance both shocked me and made me laugh--some well deserved (hint...Piper!).

Overall, Aflame blew my expectations out of the water as I knew it would. Ms. Douglas will not let Jared and Tate fans down at all! This book made me edgy (yes, I wasn't sure where Jared's head was at first), laugh (yes, Maddoc still has his awesome one-liners), happy (yes, Jared and Tate!) and cry (and yes, again, a happy Jared and Tate). And that epilogue, could I have smiled any bigger? I'm sad that this series has come to end, but hopefully we can get a little more in the future (hint...hint)!

"I exist as I am, that is enough."

And I will leave you with this slight spoiler for you-- my two favorite words coming out of Jared's mouth..."Tatum Trent."
