Thrive (Guardian Protection, #2) by Aly Martinez

When I was nineteen years old, I was faced with a choice that changed my life.
Keep the safety of what I already knew or risk losing everything with the young, hotheaded soldier who stole my heart.

I chose the wrong man, and for seventeen years, I paid in tears, blood, and shattered dreams for that decision.

Now, there’s a man in my house, holding a gun to my head on the order of my ex-husband—given from his prison cell.

That hotheaded soldier I was too afraid to choose? He’s now a six-foot-three wall of muscle who works at the country’s most premier bodyguard agency. I’ve always wanted him, but now, I’ve never needed him more.

It’s the call I’m terrified to make.

I’m sure he still hates me… Even though I’ve never stopped loving him.

4 Stars

I love a good second chance romance story with danger and angst. And Thrive delivered just that! You know going into the Guardian Protection series that this will be jammed packed with action, mystery plenty of sizzling moments. And you gotta love the Guardian Protection men! They are some tough males, willing to protect those who they care for!

Don't freak out about this book being a love triangle, yes, in a way it is, but it's not the  main point of the story--it takes place seventeen years later. Jeremy Lark and Mira York were friends. Friends who were in love, but were manipulated by their so called friend, Kurt. After a lot of hurt and wrong choices, their friendship/love was torn apart.

Lark has moved on with his life and works as bodyguard for the Guardian Protection. And when he receives a phone call from the one woman who shredded his heart, seventeen years ago, he has not interest in helping her.

Mira is in trouble. She trusted wrong people in her life and the only person (and the last person) she wanted to turn to help is the man, who had her heart, Lark. And Lark wants nothing to do with her. But Lark stop himself from helping her out.

These two characters were perfect, but there so much hurt between them, it was hard for them to let the past go. But with all the danger and mystery lurking in Mira's life, it brings these two back together. It's a long tough road for their HEA.  Always looking forward for more.

About the Author
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
