Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino

When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J.Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. As an adjunct writing instructor at UC San Diego with her own stalled literary career and a bumpy long-term relationship, Emiline isn’t thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of a young and gifted writer.

Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life beyond the long dirt road that winds through their impoverished town in rural Ohio.

That’s because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade. Far from being flattered that he wrote the novel from her perspective, Emiline is furious that he co-opted her painful past and took some dramatic creative liberties with the ending.

The only way she can put her mind at ease is to find and confront “J. Colby,” but is she prepared to learn the truth behind the fiction?

5 Swear on This Book Stars

You know there is something special about a book when you can't put it down and devour it one sitting. I can't even describe how much I loved this book, Swear On This Life. As always, Ms. Carlino, is brilliant story teller and she had my heart hurting and bursting with love and hope.

Emiline is a struggling writer who has a dark and sad past, that she kept hidden for years. She's been through so much growing up in Ohio and there's only one person who knows her story and it's about to shared to the world. She finds her life mirroring a best-selling novel and she can't stop the feelings of her life and one true love come rushing back. She's hurt that part of her life is getting exposed to the world, and in order to move forward she needs to face her past and the people in it.

What I loved about this book is how it flashback and shared Emi and Jase's past through this novel. It is brilliant way of retelling the past. I was feeling exactly what Emi was feeling as  she read her own life on the pages. This books takes you through every emotion from friendship, pain, love, heartbreak and loss.

Overall, Swear On This Life is a fabulous read that is on my top read of 2016.
